Aadhaar for NRIs
Aadhaar is now central to almost every service in India — banking, property, taxes, even booking a train. Here’s where NRIs stand.
Who is eligible?
ఎవరు అర్హులు?As of the latest UIDAI rules, an NRI with a valid Indian passport can enroll for Aadhaar — the earlier requirement of 182 days of residency in India no longer applies to NRIs holding an Indian passport. OCI cardholders and foreign citizens must still complete 182 days of stay in India in the past 12 months before enrolling.
Enrolling on your India visit
భారత పర్యటనలో నమోదు- Locate a UIDAI-authorised Aadhaar Seva Kendra (major cities like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam all have several).
- Book an appointment on myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in (Note: UIDAI portals may only be accessible from within India) — walk-ins are possible but slow.
- Carry your Indian passport, a proof of address (Indian or foreign), and a working email. NRIs should give a passport-linked email.
- Biometrics (10 fingerprints, iris, photo) are captured on the spot.
- Aadhaar is typically generated within 30 days and can be downloaded as an e-Aadhaar PDF.
Updates & corrections
వివరాల మార్పు & సవరణలుMost updates — mobile number, email, address, name spelling — can now be done online. Log in at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in (Note: UIDAI portals may only be accessible from within India) using your Aadhaar number and OTP. Some updates (biometrics, major demographic changes) still need an in-person visit to a Seva Kendra.
